- Began in 1983 as the Prairie Village Park Foundation
- Original purpose to fund the maintenance of City Parks and encourage community members to make gifts to their City as a living memorial of their loved ones
- Name was changed in 1986 to broaden the scope to include contributions to the arts, gifts to residents in need of financial assistance, and to provide scholarships
- Accepted numerous memorial gifts and donations that have enhanced the parks, cultural arts, and lives of Prairie Village residents

To provide assistance to persons in need, foster and promote acquisition and/or development of parks and recreation facilities, make available cultural arts opportunities and engage in activities incidental to accomplishing such purposes within the City of Prairie Village.
